Get ready to ignite the night as Pittsburgh-based multi-hyphenate Warren Munroe prepares to drop her highly anticipated third studio album, Pretty Bitch University (P.B.U.), at her Friday, June 7 album release party at the Kelly Strayhorn Theatre in East Liberty.
The 18+ event is set to be a night packed with queer talent as Munroe invites her audience into an epic house party. Influenced by the historically black universities that Warren has admired for so long, the album’s soundscape is filled with the unmistakable sounds of Munroe’s fearless and warm flow; her fun, flirty lyrics leave the room thick with anticipation for the next track, and fans clamoring for her Bronx style, which she’s continued to evolve to resonate in her new Pittsburgh home.
Presented by Pittsburgh-based musician Warren Munroe and Be Gay [Do Crime] Productions, this showcase of local queer talent promises to be an unforgettable evening filled with laughter, queer joy, and incredible performances by Munroe and a stacked local lineup including musical openers such as local drag-pop star Joey Young, viral rap sensation Majasti, and Nashville native Michael Clifton – all who support Munroe on the album.
Support for Munroe’s show represents Be Gay [Do Crime]’s mission as it moves through 2024: to continue creating safe performance and entertainment spaces for queer 18+ youth.
“…I struggled with the first album a lot. I unreleased and re-released the project six times before moving on,” says Warren Munroe. Munroe is a staple of the local Pittsburgh drag community, regularly performing at venues like the Blue Moon Bar, P-Town, and Mr. Smalls Funhouse.
“I definitely am a perfectionist for my work, and after dealing with some untrustworthy people in the industry, I learned that putting your nose to the grindstone lets you know you’ve done everything they can.”
In April 2024, she released the lead single for P.B.U. titled “Boo Thang,” giving fans a taste of Munroe’s infectious melodies in the lead-up to June’s album release.
“Warren Munroe’s Pretty Bitch University” takes place Friday, June 7th, at the Kelly Strayhorn Theatre. (5941 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206). Doors open at 7:00 PM. Show starts at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $20. AGES 18+. Be Gay. Do Crime.
