What’s Queer and Going on in April

Spring has sprung and these events are sure to fill up your queer basket in April. As state-mandated restricts begin to be lifted at the beginning of the month, please remember to continue to follow the guidelines of the establishment hosting any and all events.


One Year of MasQUing Up: a Tribute to the Pgh MasQUe ProjecT

Saturday, April 3 @ 8:00 pm, online

Join the Pittsburgh MasQUe ProjecT as we pay tribute to one year of distributing masks to the trans and queer community. We will talk with mask recipients, mask makers, volunteers, and the many wonderful folx who helped us reach this milestone. We will honor the lives & deaths of the more than 540,000 neighbors in the United States and the 2.7+ million neighbors worldwide. We will celebrate the survivors and learn how to support each other as we endure the ongoing pandemic.

Back to the 90s Cosmic Bowling Night

Stonewall Bowling Pittsburgh is capping off the winter season with a bonus week of cosmic bowling. On Tuesday April 6 starting at 7:30pm, it’ll be a fun 90s throwback for only $9. Admission includes 3-games of bowling, ball and shoes.Are you someone who dreams of a 10, but won’t turn down a 9?
We know you’re out there, so on this night 9 pins will also count as a strike! That’s right, we’ve got a special 1-pin fudge-factor built in. So if the first ball you throw in the frame is only 9-pins, we’re counting it as a strike! (Sorry, doesn’t apply to spares.)Come as you are or dress for the times in acid wash jeans, random neon things, throwback logos, tube tops, capri pants, overalls and scrunchies.Face masks are required in accordance with applicable health and safety guidelines. Join us for a reading and Q&A with poet Aaron Smith.

Aaron Smith is the author of four books of poetry published by the Pitt Poetry Series. His collections include Blue on Blue Ground (2005), winner of the Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize; Appetite (2012), an NPR Great Read and finalist for the Paterson Poetry Prize; Prime (2016), a Poetry Must Read for the Massachusetts Center for the Book; and The Book of Daniel (2019). His chapbooks include Men in Groups and What’s Required, winner of the Frank O’Hara Award.

A three-time finalist for the Lambda Literary Award, he is the recipient of fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Mass Cultural Council, and his work has appeared in such publications as Court Green, Ploughshares, and The Best American Poetry 2013. He has taught at West Virginia Wesleyan and is currently Associate Professor in Creative Writing at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. (Photo: Brian Fizer)

Drag Brunch at The Forge

We’re excited to announce that we will finally be hosting our first Drag Brunch on April 11th!!!Kicking off our new Bi-Weekly event with drag queens from our city, Elizabeth Wayne and Leia Way LeStat. This event is free of charge, and all you have to do is have 2 drinks and enjoy. Brunch runs from 11 to 3 while our show is happening from 12 to 2.This isn’t your typical drag brunch, expect crude jokes, a good laugh, and a fun time while these two have a good time entertaining you! April Shine Digital Open Stage Show

hine, Pittsburgh’s only 18+ non-competitive Open Stage is now at large on the world wide web. Join us on Friday, April 16th on Zoom for a night of various talents shining on stage for our entertainment! We are an open stage that is open to all performers of every walk of experience. Any style or genre is welcome including (but not limited to): drag, burlesque, dancing, singing, live music, poetry, puppetry, magic, or anything that can be performed! And now that we are digital, we welcome acts from anywhere in the world! We will be starting promptly at 9pm EST on Zoom!


LET’S FLY A KITE

Hosted by the Washington County Gay Straight Alliance. Meet at Washington Park Tennis Courts
Open to all ages! Bring your own kite or use one of ours! This event is free for all participants! Beverages (non alcoholic) and hand sanitizer will be provided, and appropriate social distancing measures will be observed. Local food truck vendors will be on site if you wish to purchase food.
March with us through the park with entertainment along the way to the kite flying site! We encourage you to bring a picnic blanket or stadium chair to watch kite flyers! Corn hole and other lawn games will be available.

A Conversation with Jonathan Van Ness

Open to Pitt students. The Pitt Program Council and the Rainbow Alliance are excited to announce A Conversation with Jonathan Van Ness! This Webinar will take place April 19th, 2021 at 8:30pm EST and will feature a Q&A session with Jonathan, co-moderated by both the Pitt Program Council and the Rainbow Alliance, as a part of Pitt’s PRIDE celebrations. Students will have an opportunity to both pre-submit questions for the event via our Instagram DMs as well as submit questions during the event as it’s happening! This event will be held virtually through Zoom Webinars – students must sign in through their Pitt Zoom account and their Pitt Passport to access the event. Parent2Parent Support Group

We would love to welcome you to out parent-to-parent coffee!

This informal gathering allows us as parents of transgender, gender nonconforming and gender questioning children to connect. This is a parent run event, open only to parents and direct caregivers of these children. We respect each others confidentiality and the fact that we may be in different stages of this journey. We all have felt very alone and confused at times, and have found that connecting with other parents of gender nonconforming children to be a great relief.

For the Love of Furniture with Tony Allgeier

Youth AFFIRM Meet & Greet for May/June series

Meet & Greet for LGBTQIA2S+ youth 14-21 years old who wish to participate in youth AFFIRM.This CBT based series was created to help manage stress due to anti-LGBTQ discrimination. There are 8 sessions, conducted in a closed-group format (no members will be added once the series begins).
This series will be held Thursdays in May and June from 6pm-7:30pm. There is no cost to participate.**Technology and earbuds are available for those who need it.**Please use the link to register and receive access to the Meet & Greet
