A drag brunch slated to feature Pittsburgh’s Luna Skye and Indi Skies at a Primanti Bros. in Wheeling, West Virginia on February 26 had to be canceled and tickets refunded after threats were sent to the entertainers, Primanti Bros., and patrons.
“Due to the amount of threats towards Primantis, the entertainers, and sometimes even patrons, we’ve decided for the safety of everyone involved to cancel the event,” S&S Productions said in a statement posted on their Facebook page. “We hope in the near future we can try to bring another brunch to the area. We were only 2 tables away from a fabulous sold-out event.”
Now, an MMA coach and his fighters are offering to provide security for the event should S&S Productions decide to reschedule in the area.
Johnny Haught, the owner, operator, and head coach at Ohio Valley MMA has volunteered himself and some of his fighters to ensure the safety of the event.
Haught told WTRF in Wheeling that he has bounced at a couple of bars for 10 years and has a good understanding of event security and safety.
“The drag show is no more offensive than a Broadway show, or a stand-up comedy show. In essence, it’s a mix of both. At the end of the day, it is entertainment. Not part of some hidden agenda, like some would have you believe,” Haught told WTRF.
Ohio Valley MMA has fighters in competitions this weekend and next month.
“A little glitter never hurt anyone,” S&S Productions said. No word yet on if another drag brunch will be scheduled.
