SWC cooks up fund-raising idea

Shepherd Wellness Community is currently creating a 400-page, general interest cookbook as its latest fund-raising effort. “Won From the Hear”t” will include recipes from TV’s Mister Rogers, actor Michael Keaton, director George Romero and the much- adored Liz Taylor.

“Won From the Heart” is the brainstorm of Michael Bell, an SWC board member who came up with his fund-raising idea while eating at a Wellness dinner.

“I was really surprised that no one had done this yet,” Bell said. “It’s a great way to raise money, and it’s a good tie-in, since Wellness is so well-known for its biweekly dinners.”

Several corporate sponsors have already made donations to help publish the book. The first printing will be a limited edition of 7,500 copies, which Bell predicted will sell quickly.

A free-lance writer, Bell serves as the cookbook’s editor; the author is Robert Le Bras, “who studied culinary design in Paris,” according to Bell, and will verify the quality and reliability of each recipe.

“Won From the Heart” will be in stores by Dec. 1 to coincide with World AIDS Day.
