Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh Exploring Ultimate

Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh announced their exploration of the formation of an expansion league for ultimate frisbee and two trial days of ultimate frisbee games.

With neither kickball nor sand volleyball games scheduled for Sundays, June 12 and June 26, ultimate frisbee games will be held at McKinley Park from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Interested players should pre-register for free using the Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh LeagueApps registration portal.

Games will be scheduled for every hour on the hour with teams of seven playing 45-minute games of two 20-minute halves and a 5-minute halftime break. New teams will be randomly formed for each game to encourage socialization and a mix of skills.

The proposed formation of the ultimate frisbee league was brought to the Stonewall Alliance board, the non-profit organization that oversees Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh, by William Bainbridge. “No other Stonewall Sports chapter offers the sport, so Pittsburgh will be helping set the stage for expansion across the chapters,” the Stonewall Alliance board said in a statement.

“Conducting the June 2022 events will provide insight for the board to make a determination of how best to move forward with a future league. The league will require additional volunteer leaders and need to work with the Pittsburgh City Parks office to find a proper field location based on the anticipated league size.”
