A 911 call. A house full of secrets. A past that refuses to stay buried.
QBurgh is heading to Quantum Theatre for a special QBurgh Night performance of radio island on Tuesday, November 10, at 7:30 p.m., and you’re invited! Even better, QBurgh readers can save 20% on tickets with promo code QBURGH.
Written by Liza Birkenmeier and directed by Quantum Theatre’s incoming artistic director Katie Brook, radio island is a world-premiere gothic thriller that explores family trauma, buried histories, and the dangerous consequences of silence.
The story follows Ellen, an international hostage negotiator who returns to her childhood home to care for her adoptive mother, Paula. But coming home means confronting more than complicated family dynamics. As Ellen navigates a high-stakes international hostage crisis from inside the house, unsettling questions about her family’s past begin to surface.
What unfolds is a psychological thriller where the personal and political collide, memories become unreliable, and the line between safety and danger grows increasingly uncertain.
Staged inside Rockwell Park in Pittsburgh’s North Point Breeze neighborhood, radio island transforms the theatrical space into an unsettling world of shifting perspectives, rotating walls, shadowy corners, and secrets hiding in plain sight. A 911 operator narrates the unfolding mystery with the eerie familiarity of a true-crime story, inviting audiences to piece together a truth that never quite reveals itself all at once.
Starring Siovhan Christensen and Helena Ruoti, with Treasure Treasure, the production also explores the complicated ways trauma shapes relationships, including Ellen’s relationship with her girlfriend, Rory.
It’s the kind of theater that invites conversation long after the final scene, making it a perfect opportunity for a QBurgh night out.
Join us Tuesday, November 10, at 7:30 p.m., for QBurgh Night at radio island. Use promo code QBURGH for 20% off tickets.
radio island runs through November 15, 2026, at Rockwell Park.
