PrideFest volunteers needed

The Gay & Lesbian Community Center’s Pittsburgh Three Rivers PrideFest Committee invites volunteers to its next meeting, April 20, at 7pm, at the GLCC.

The committee is seeking volunteers to assist with preparations for Pittsburgh’s 2006 gay pride day, scheduled this year for June 17. The celebration begins with the annual parade, this year known as the “Pride Awareness March” and with a later starting time at noon. The parade will follow a route through downtown Pittsburgh and to the North Shore site of the Pride Festival, to be held again this year in Riverfront Park between PNC Park and Heinz Field along the banks of the Allegheny River. The festival opens at 1pm and will include vendor booths, food sales, entertainment and other activities.

The celebration will culminate with Pride Night at PNC Park. Thanks to the Pittsburgh Pirates, entertainment will be provided on a stage in front of the ballpark, and there will be a pride area offering a buffet and beverages at reasonable prices for PrideFest attendees who stay for the game.

Event sponsorships are available for businesses and organizations that support the visibility of the region’s GLBT population and its allies. Sponsorships are also offered through the new “Friends of Pride” campaign, which provides a unique way for individuals to support the event and earn some great benefits.

For more information about the 2006 PrideFest, call the Gay & Lesbian Community Center at (412) 422-0114 or visit the Web site at www.glccpgh.org.
