Pittsburgh’s Be Gay [Do Crime], a renowned drag concert series, is set to host its latest event, “The Fairweather Family Fun-der Dome,” at Mr. Smalls Theatre on Friday, April 5th. The event promises an evening of entertainment, competition, and celebration open to individuals 18 years and older.
The ‘FUN-DER DOME’ show has become Be Gay [Do Crime]’s most popular concert series to
date, which they hope to develop into a community staple not only for local queer culture but the greater Pittsburgh community and beyond. This open-stage extravaganza highlights ten up-and coming entertainers as they are judged by local legends for awards and over $500 in cash prizes.
Presented by Pittsburgh-based drag performer Miss Demeanor and Mr. Smalls Theatre, this showcase of local queer talent promises to be an unforgettable evening filled with laughter, queer joy, and incredible performances. The ‘FUN-DER DOME’ is a free entry event which is made possible by community donations and sponsorships from local businesses.
“There continues to be a huge lack of queer spaces for the under-21 crowd, which has
motivated our work over the past two years,” says Miss Demeanor, also known as Patrick Mayoral. “I hope that we can continue to build spaces where students and queer youth can express themselves and develop a sense of queer community amongst their peers.”
In April 2023, Mayoral was named one of Allies for Health + Wellbeing’s 2023 Bright Young People for their work in the queer community and for creating Be Gay [Do Crime] Productions, the first 501(c)(3) project of its kind in the region.
“In this era of drag bans, anti-trans legislation, and open homophobia, Be Gay [Do Crime] is
helping to fill such a critical void,” says Mayoral.
