Pittsburgh Trans Defense Fund Launched

TransYouniting today launched the Pittsburgh Trans Defense Fund to purchase the supplies to put together an initial 65 free self-defense kits for Black and brown trans individuals in the Pittsburgh region.

In 2019, the City of Pittsburgh’s Gender Equity Commission released a 96 page white paper revealing Pittsburgh to be “the least livable city in America for Black people”. Last year, 44 known trans people were murdered in the United States; one of the deadliest years on record for the trans community.

The initial goal of the Fund is to raise $5,000 to provide 65 self-defense kits. Excess funds will go towards a second of kits pending capacity and community need.

To request a kit, message TransYouniting on Instagram.

Donations can be made through the GoFundMe campaign or Venmo @trans-youniting and Cash App $transyounitingpgh with the subject “KITS”. More information about the Fund is available on PghTransDefenseFund.org.
