As Vice President Kamala Harris mounts her bid for the presidency, local LGBTQ groups and delegates are stepping up to show their support, recognizing her commitment to LGBTQ rights and social justice.
Jim DePoe, LGBTQ community advocate and delegate to the DNC from Pittsburgh, has been vocal in his support for Kamala Harris. DePoe, who has long been an advocate for LGBTQ rights and labor rights, said “I am 100% behind Kamala Harris. She and President Biden have stood with the LGBTQ+ community since day one of this administration, and I am proud to support her nomination”.
The Steel City Stonewall Democrats are also throwing their weight behind Harris.
“Vice President Kamala Harris represents the American future by embracing LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC Americans. She shares our common values including democracy, inclusiveness, and justice. The Steel City Stonewall Democrats could not be more excited to support her in the fight against authoritarianism,” said Ian Price, President of the Steel City Stonewall Democrats.
The Stonewall Democrats have long been at the forefront of political advocacy in Pittsburgh, and their support underscores Harris’ alignment with the core values of the LGBTQ community. Their efforts to mobilize voters and raise awareness about Harris’ policies will be vital in garnering support from the greater queer community.
Pittsburgh’s LGBTQ groups and delegates are playing a crucial role in supporting Kamala Harris’ lightning-fast presidential bid. Their collective efforts are not only amplifying her campaign but also highlighting the importance of LGBTQ rights in the broader political discourse. As these groups continue to rally behind Harris, they are sending a clear message: the fight for equality is far from over, and having an ally in the highest office is more important than ever.
