Man Critically Injured in Strip District Shooting Near Lucky’s

Real Luck Café says the shooting did not occur inside the longtime LGBTQ bar and that patrons were not involved.

A man is in critical condition after being shot near Real Luck Café, better known as Lucky’s, in Pittsburgh’s Strip District early Saturday morning. Lucky’s emphasized in a statement following the incident that the shooting did not take place inside the bar.

Pittsburgh Police responded to the 1500 block of Penn Avenue around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, following reports of a shooting outside the longtime LGBTQ bar.

When first responders arrived, they found an adult man outside the building suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and immediately taken into surgery, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

Police said a male suspect fled the area on foot following the shooting. A witness was taken to police headquarters for questioning.

The Mobile Crime Unit processed the scene and recovered shell casings. Pittsburgh Police’s Violent Crime Division is investigating.

As of Saturday morning, police had not publicly identified a suspect or announced a motive in the shooting.

Following the incident, Lucky’s said the shooting took place outside the building, not inside the bar.

“Last night, there was an unfortunate shooting outside of our building,” the bar said in a social media post. “This did not occur inside of our bar and our patrons were not involved.”

According to Lucky’s, the shooting occurred outside near the bar’s deck. The business said it believes an altercation may have originated elsewhere in the Strip District before reaching the area outside the bar. Police have not publicly confirmed where the altercation began.

The investigation remains ongoing.
