Pittsburgh-famous Leona’s Ice Cream has launched an Indiegogo to assist with the opening of their first scoop shop.

The LGBTQ and women-owned ice cream wholesaler has been a popular treat for the Pittsburgh queer and straight communities for a decade. Now, owners Christa Puskarich and Katie Heldstab are aiming to open their very first, long-requested, scoop shop in Lawrence Hall in Lawrenceville. The Lawrence Hall project will feature four local restaurateurs centered around the Dear James bar.

What will the Indiegogo funds go towards? “So many freezers,” said Heldstab laughing. “Ice cream is all about freezer storage and making sure things get to you in the best possible condition.”

Leona’s ice cream is 100% real dairy, 100% lactose-free, and 100% locally sourced. Lawrence Hall and the Leona’s Ice Cream scoop shop are scheduled to open in early Spring 2024.

As of publication, the Indiegogo campaign has amassed 72 backers with 36 days left.
