House Passes Equality Act

This is breaking news and will be updated with developments.

The US House passed the Equality Act today which amends the 1964 Civil Rights act to protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations.

The bill passed 224 – 206. Three Republicans, Reps. John Katko, Tom Reed, and Brian Fitzpatrick, joined with Democrats in passing the bill. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced today as well that he already intends to bring the legislation to the floor of the Senate. Passage of the Equality Act in the Senate is not a guarantee.

Many Republican Representatives and Senators have attacked the legislation with despicable comments that will not be republished here.
