GoFundMe to Save the Stonewall Inn

Covid-19 has put the historic Stonewall Inn in jeopardy of closing.

Covid-19 has put the historic Stonewall Inn in jeopardy of closing.

On June 13, the Stonewall Inn launched a GoFundMe to help raise the funds needed to stay open saying:

“We are reaching out because like many families and small businesses around the world, The Stonewall Inn is struggling. Our doors have been closed for over three months to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of patrons, staff and the community. Even in the best of times it can be difficult to survive as a small business and we now face an uncertain future. Even once we reopen, it will likely be under greatly restricted conditions limiting our business activities.”

The Stonewall Inn was the site of what many in the LGBTQ Community consider to be the beginning of the LGBTQ rights movement when in 1969 after the well known gay bar was raided by police and Marsha P. Johnson, a trans woman of color, helped to spark and lead an uprising and protests against the treatment of the LGBTQ Community by the police.
