Give Back to the LGBTQ Community This Giving Tuesday

Today is Giving Tuesday, a day of global generosity towards the people and organizations that are working to make the world a better place. While you should think globally, act locally this Giving Tuesday by supporting the great work of the many LGBTQ Community organizations and non-profits in the Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania region. Here’s how:

TransYouniting

TransYOUniting is a trans based non-profit resource organization that provides educational programs for trans folks and allies. As transgender & non-binary community leaders, advocates & allies, they are equipped with more than 60+  years of lived experience to help transgender, non-binary and gender expansive people thrive

Proud Haven

Proud Haven’s mission is to provide a safe shelter for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) youth experiencing homelessness and housing instability. They also provide emotional support and resources to help LGBTQ+ youth develop needed skills.

This year, Proud Haven partnered with Trans Youniting and Trans Pride Pittsburgh to launch Pittsburgh Youth Haven to provide further support to the TLGBQIA+ community.

For LGBTQ+ youth who are isolated at home with families who may be struggling with their identity, the Foundation offers virtual support groups and 1-1 support.  So far, they’ve assisted 70 parents and 30 youth.

Queer Family Planning Project

This nonprofit was created to help LGBTQ folx start their own families after the founders faced numerous obstacles while trying to have their second child. From trying to avoid unnecessary testing, to the COSTS of everything all of this entails, it became frustrating and disheartening for them. No one should have to jump through the hoops that are in place just to have a child. The Queer Family Planning Project is here to help alleviate some of these costs.

The PGH Equality Center began in 1979 as a phone line. The Center branched out to being a community center and advocacy group. Through the years, the Center has hosted youth programming, the 2nd largest LGBTQIA+ focused library, OUTrageous Bingo, and more. In 2020 many PGH Equality Center programs have gone virtual.
