Disability Pride Pittsburgh is coming to Schenley Plaza to celebrate community, joy, and
access. This year’s theme is “We Belong Here and We’re Here to Stay.”
Now in its fifth year, the event centers people with disabilities and all their intersecting
identities.
“LGBTQIA+ community members belong at Disability Pride Pittsburgh because our
identities are connected,” says Disability Pride Pennsylvania Executive Director Vicki
Landers, who identifies as she/they. “And none of us should have to leave part of
ourselves at the door. Join us for an accessible celebration where queer and trans
disabled people are seen, valued, and celebrated.”
More than 50 vendors will be displaying their crafts, resources, and services, including
an airbrush tattoo artist and a face painter. There will be a DJ, games, a sensory room,
and ASL interpretation for speakers, plus interpreters available for conversations
throughout the event.
“Come for the joy, resources, entertainment, and community—and help us build a
Pittsburgh where everyone can show up fully and proudly,” says Landers. “Whether you
are disabled, LGBTQIA+, both, or an ally: you belong here, and we’re here to stay!”
Disability Pride Pittsburgh is on Saturday, September 26, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Schenley Plaza, 4100 Forbes Ave. Free and open to the public. No registration necessary.
