A Cup of Queer Cheer

With holiday greetings, gay happy meetings, and charity for all.

Our friends at 5801 Video Lounge & Cafe are celebrating the season with a highly spirited holiday bar, complete with over-the-top Christmas decorations and a special seasonal menu. It won’t be your typical holiday “pop-up” bar, though; this celebration is about making a positive impact.

5801’s extra festive holiday bar will be serving as a vehicle for The First Noellsworth, a charity event beginning December 2 and running until Christmas Eve, with the overall goal of raising $10,000. The proceeds of the event will be split evenly between Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, and the Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation, an organization that offers support and services to the LGBT+ and HIV communities.

The First Noellsworth will kick-off with a guest bartended happy hour on Thursday, December 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Larry Shaffer and Sarah Rosso from the Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation will be slinging cocktails from a specially designed drink menu at 5801’s lower bar. All tips earned will go directly to charity.

The holiday events and charitable giving don’t end there, though:

  • A special Holiday Trivia night will be held on Friday, December 3 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm with 50 percent of all proceeds collected going towards their fundraising goal.  The top three teams will split the remaining cash!
  • A Christmas-themed Drag Brunch takes place on Sunday, December 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 5801 will be matching all tips earned at this event.
  • Got a sweet tooth? Former 5801 owner Darin Smith, along with his partner Patrick Taylor and other generous volunteers, will be whipping up batches of cookies for a Christmas Cookie Bake Sale with all proceeds going directly to charity. You can purchase these for $6 per half dozen from your server or bartender throughout the month of December.
  • 10 percent of all lower bar sales will go to charity, as well as $1 for every specialty drink ordered from the Noellsworth Christmas Cocktail Menu, which will include festive libations like the White Christmas (white chocolate peppermint martini), Santa’s Milk (salted caramel vodka with Kahlua, creme, and a drizzle of caramel), Hot Cocoa (whipped vodka and chocolate liqueur, garnished with marshmallows) and more!

“5801 has a long tradition of supporting the community and we want to carry on that tradition,” said Graham Miller, new co-owner of the bar. “Last year was so tough for everyone and we just wanted to give back and say thanks.”

Keep an eye on 5801’s Facebook page for more info on all The First Noellsworth events.
