The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council (GPAC) has announced the recipients of its 2024-2025 Creative Sector Flex Fund, awarding $180,000 in grants to 36 organizations across Southwestern Pennsylvania. Among the grantees are two prominent queer organizations, the Renaissance City Choir and Reel Q: Pittsburgh Lesbian and Gay Film Society, both of which received $5,000 to support their ongoing arts and culture programming.
The Creative Sector Flex Fund, a program administered regionally by GPAC on behalf of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, provides vital financial support to small and mid-sized organizations with annual revenues between $10,000 and $200,000. The initiative aims to strengthen the region’s diverse artistic ecosystem by funding organizations that contribute to the cultural fabric of Allegheny, Beaver, Greene, and Washington counties.
The Renaissance City Choir, Pittsburgh’s LGBTQIA+ choral ensemble, plans to use the funding to continue its mission of promoting inclusion and community through choral music. The choir is renowned for its commitment to artistic excellence and its role in fostering a sense of belonging for queer individuals and allies.
Reel Q, the Pittsburgh Lesbian and Gay Film Society, is one of the oldest LGBTQ+ film festivals in the world. The $5,000 grant will help Reel Q continue its tradition of showcasing queer cinema and creating spaces for dialogue and celebration within the community.
