What Pride Means to Our Community

From found family to self-acceptance, Pittsburgh Pride attendees explain why Pride remains a vital celebration of belonging and visibility.

What does Pride mean to you?

At Pittsburgh Pride 2026, we asked community members to share what Pride means in their own words. Their answers touched on visibility, chosen family, self-acceptance, community, resilience, and the freedom to exist authentically.

From people who found acceptance for the first time, to those who discovered community after years of isolation, these stories remind us that Pride is more than a celebration—it’s a declaration that LGBTQ+ people belong.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences with us and to everyone who continues building a stronger, more inclusive Pittsburgh.
