Pittsburgh Black Pride is entering a new era of leadership with the appointment of a new board of directors, signaling a generational shift for one of the region’s longest-running Black LGBTQ+ organizations.
The newly appointed board includes Tausha Bonner, Michelle Flewellen, Jasmine Strother, Rachelle Harvey, and Dawn Martin, an emerging group of leaders stepping forward to help guide the organization’s future.
According to the organization, the new board reflects a forward-thinking vision that blends fresh perspectives with a continued commitment to Pittsburgh Black Pride’s long-standing mission of uplifting and celebrating Black LGBTQ+ communities.
“We are excited to welcome this new generation of leaders,” said Executive Director Flecia Harvey in a statement. “Their passion, creativity, and willingness to take initiative will play a critical role in shaping the future of our organization.”
By intentionally bringing younger voices into positions of power, Pittsburgh Black Pride is positioning itself to remain responsive to evolving community needs while expanding its reach.
Organizers say these new board members bring a modern approach to problem-solving, with an emphasis on innovation, community engagement, and strengthening connections with the next generation of Black queer Pittsburghers.
The move also reflects a broader shift happening across LGBTQ+ organizations nationwide, where sustainability and relevance increasingly depend on intergenerational collaboration and leadership development.
Pittsburgh Black Pride, which will celebrate its 31st anniversary in 2026, has long served as a cornerstone for Black LGBTQ+ visibility and community-building in the region.
The organization’s upcoming 2026 celebration, scheduled for July 23–26, reflects both tradition and growth. Planned events include an opening reception, annual ball, drag show, health fair, family day, and the 31st annual BBQ; programming that continues to center joy, wellness, and connection.
This year’s theme emphasizes unity and collective strength, with organizers inviting the community to “celebrate diversity, unity, and love for who we are as humans.”
