SisTers PGH marked Trans Day of Visibility with the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Stonewall Inn Pittsburgh, a new trans-led drop-in and resource center located at 211 Smithfield Street in Downtown Pittsburgh.

The opening represents a major expansion of the organization’s services after more than a decade of advocacy and direct support for transgender and gender-expansive people across the region.

The Stonewall Inn Pittsburgh will operate as a daily drop-in center providing access to showers, meals, hygiene supplies, clothing, and rest space. The site will also offer behavioral health services with a licensed therapist, case management support, and connections to housing, healthcare, and workforce development resources.

According to SisTers PGH, the new center is designed to address both immediate needs and long-term stability for community members. Existing programs include Monica Roberts Place, a permanent housing initiative for Black and Brown trans people, and Project T, which provides transitional housing for Black trans women and girls.

β€œVisibility means more than being seen,” the organization said in a statement. β€œIt means being supported, protected, and resourced.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together community members, organizers, and local supporters. The opening was followed by a Trans Day of Visibility drag showcase benefit event later in the evening.

SisTers PGH, founded in 2013, has focused its work on addressing disparities faced by transgender people in Southwestern Pennsylvania, particularly in housing, healthcare access, and economic stability. The organization also provides rental and utility assistance, free therapy services, and leadership development through its Keystone Liberation Leadership Academy.

The Stonewall Inn Pittsburgh is intended to serve individuals throughout Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and the surrounding region.

SisTers PGH is encouraging ongoing community support to sustain the space, including donations to fund daily operations such as staffing, utilities, and supplies.
