The Stonewall Alliance, the organization behind all of Pittsburgh’s Stonewall Sports leagues, is now accepting nominations for several key commissioner roles for the 2026 seasons. These are the folks who make it all happen, from setting schedules and forming league boards to managing budgets and holding space for inclusive, community-centered queer sports.
Without commissioners, there’s no league. Every dodgeball spike, bocce toss, and pickleball rally is made possible by volunteers who step up, lead with care, and keep the leagues running.
The Stonewall Alliance is seeking nominations for commissioners of bocce, cornhold, dodgeball, and pickleball.
Commissioners typically serve two-year terms and are essential members of both the Alliance and their specific sport’s program. These roles are ideal for folks who want to deepen their involvement in queer sports, help shape a welcoming culture for all players, and build something that lasts beyond just one season.
Commissioners are more than just schedule makers—they are organizers, problem-solvers, and community stewards. Each commissioner:
- Leads their sport, forming a program board to support league operations
- Attends monthly Stonewall Alliance Board meetings as a voting member
- Manages league logistics like rulebooks, team capacities, finances, registration, and equipment
- Partners with the Alliance’s leadership to coordinate communications, sponsorships, and insurance
- Gets complimentary registration for their own league and training/support from the Alliance
Nominate Yourself or Someone You Know
Think you, or someone in your league, would be a great fit? Nominate yourself or a fellow player using the Commissioner Nomination Form. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a new face with fresh energy, there’s room to lead.
If you’re unsure about the responsibilities or want to know what the gig really looks like, reach out! The current Alliance leadership is more than happy to talk you through it.
