TQ Live!, the annual event showcasing queer performance art in Pittsburgh, will celebrate its 10th anniversary on September 6, 2024, at the Carnegie Museum of Art. Over the past decade, TQ Live! has become a vital platform for LGBTQIA+ performers, bringing a diverse array of talent from both local and national stages to Pittsburgh audiences.
This year’s event will focus on the transformative power of music, continuing TQ Live!’s tradition of pushing the boundaries of performance art. Since its debut in 2013, TQ Live! has featured performances across a variety of genres, including dance, comedy, spoken word, drag, music, theater, and film. Past performers have included The Dragon Sisters, Vanessa German, Mrs. Kasha Davis, and Rickey Laurentiis, each contributing to the event’s growing reputation as a hub for cutting-edge queer expression.
TQ Live! began as a project within a Carnegie Mellon School of Art class led by Professor Suzie Silver from 2011 to 2016. Students in the class produced and performed variety shows at the Andy Warhol Museum, where TQ Live! was co-presented from 2013 to 2019. As the event grew in popularity, it moved from the museum’s theater to its entrance space to accommodate larger audiences.
The 2024 lineup, curated by long-time producers Suzie Silver, Scott Andrew, Joseph Hall, and Sarah Huny Young, promises to deliver another unforgettable evening. The event will be hosted by musician lys scott and will feature performances by Detroit’s Ahya Simone, known for her ethereal harp compositions and multidisciplinary approach; Pittsburgh’s Mani Bahia, whose genre-blending sounds have captivated local audiences; the ambient duo GLO-TREE, who offer a unique, improvised musical experience; and Joey Young, Pittsburgh’s Drag Pop Star, whose performances are both electric and empowering. The night will conclude with a dance party led by DJ HUNY XO, adding a dynamic finale to the celebration.
In addition to the performances, TQ Live! 2024 will offer a variety of food and drink options, ensuring a full evening of entertainment and community engagement. The event is designed for adult audiences and will explore mature themes.
TQ Live! 2024 is co-presented by the Carnegie Museum of Art and is made possible through the support of the Opportunity Fund, Carnegie Mellon University School of Art, and the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry.
