Renaissance City Choir, Western Pennsylvania’s only LGBTQIA chorus, announced their 2023 – 2024 Concert Season exploring the power and beauty of earth, air, fire, water, and aether; the classical elements that make up our world.

While each of these elements are powerful alone, it is only through their union that our world came to be. The LGBTQIA+ community must similarly unite our diverse and powerful voices as we work to create a world that affirms and celebrates our differences in the face of vocal forces that seek to silence us.

By using the concepts of the five elements, based in ancient cultures from around the world, the Renaissance City Choir seeks to educate, challenge, and enlighten audiences and membership. Each show this season features songs inspired by those classical elements, revealing the rich and grand tapestry created when these primal forces come together.

Fire and Ice

The first concert of the season on Saturday, December 9 will focus on the grandeur of “Fire and Ice,” and include holiday favorites including “Sleigh Ride” and “Let It Snow,” along with seasonal pieces like “Eight Days of Lights” celebrating Chanukah and “Solstice Song.” The Renaissance City Choir invited the community to join them as they present a celebration marking the season of ice and fire which brings us all together.

The Renaissance City Choir affirms and celebrates LGBTQIA+ identity through the unifying power of music. RCC is western Pennsylvania’s only LGBTQIA+ and allies choral group. They strive to promote a positive image of the LGBTQIA+ community and to be a leading contributor to the cultural life of the tri-state area.

RCC programming blends challenging contemporary music, commissions of new works, an ambitious traditional repertoire, and music from various world cultures.

They seek to educate, challenge, and enlighten both audiences and singing
membership. They continue to affirm, by example and through song, the worth and dignity of those in our community. Music that is queer-positive and openly supports issues related to human equality and justice is represented at all concerts.

The Renaissance City Choir is a member of GALA Choruses.
