Queer Pride Guide (Part 2)

Hey, queers! As promised, I’m back with something super special!

It’s Part 2 of the Queer Pride Guide with 21 awesome events happening between Thursday, June 9th and Friday, June 16th! This week there are 21 unique events that are fun, sexy, restorative, inclusive, and $5 words that are just synonyms for awesome (why discard a classic?).

Now, without further adieu, here are 21 MORE queer AF events:

MJ LIVE! Michael Jackson Tribute Concert

Location: Liberty Ave, between 9th and 10th Streets

Highlights: all ages, free event, Michael Jackson tribute concert by the talented MJ LIVE performers

This event sounds hella cool. All the Michael Jackson hits + crazy light effects + dancing = dance party heaven. I don’t know what this MJ tribute concert has to do with the queer community, but whatevs.

Free Pride Wellness Check-up at G2H2

Location: 5800 Ellsworth Ave
Time and Date: 06/09, 5:30PM-7:30PM

Highlights: 18+, free event, STI screenings, blood pressure test, PrEP survey, discount code for Pride in the Streets tickets

The Central Outreach Wellness van is helping us get our body in check with another free wellness check-up. What better way to start off Pride weekend than knowing you’re health and ready to party?!

Pub Crawl

Location: Various Locations

Highlights: 21+, free transportation to and from bars, free admission to the Ivy Winters show at Cruze, free and/or discounted drinks and food, participating bars include: 5801, Harris Grill, Element, Cattivo, Cruze, Lucky’s, Images, There Ultra Lounge, and 941/ Saloon

If drinking is your thing and you choose to splurge on one Pride event this weekend, Delta’s Pub Crawl was made for you! There are 10 bars in 4 neighborhoods participating in this wild night. There will be shuttle services and bar-specific offers to keep you moving all night long.

Ivy Winters Pride Pub Crawl at Cruze Bar

Free Pride Shorts

Location: The Harris Theater

Highlights: free event, screenings of short films, learn about other awesome Reel Q events, air conditioning during PrideFest

The Reel Q Pride Short Film screenings are always a fun way to get out of the heat during PrideFest. Grab a cutie and enjoy short films about other queers!

PrideFest

Location: Liberty Ave, between 9th and 10th Streets
Time and Date: 06/10, 12:00PM- 06/11, 7:00PM

Highlights: all ages, family friendly games and activities, free event, over 150 vendors, 2-day celebration, 300’ zip line, dance party area

PrideFest is jam packed with vendors, food, games, and performances. This year they added a 300-food zip line, so you can fly high like the rainbow you are!

Sign and Banner Making for People’s Pride

Location: The Glitter Box Theater
Time and Date: 06/10, 2:00PM-5:00PM
Price: FREE

Highlights: all ages, alternative pride sign-making, community building

If the Delta-produced events are missing something for you, this event is a wonderful way to start conversations and community building. There will be some craft supplies available but bringing extra is recommended.

Smoke and Mirrors- Penn OUT Loud Art Crawl

Location: Penn Ave, Garfield 15224
Time and Date: 06/10, 2:00PM- 06/11, 2:00AM

Highlights: all ages, free event, all-day activities, recovery friendly, over a dozen community partners and locations along Penn Ave in Garfield, food and refreshments, performances for local talent including Project Silk, Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force will be holding free health screenings

Penn Ave will be the hot spot this Saturday! From recovery friendly activities to art showings, and performances by Project Silk, this event has something for every-queer.

Smoke and Mirrors Out Loud Kick-Off: Reflections Meal

Location: Union Project
Time and Date: 06/10, 3:00PM-4:30PM

Highlights: all ages, free event, Spak Brothers catering, community space and discussion, facilitated conversations, community reflections

The GLCC and the Union Project are teaming up to host a community discussion over some delicious food by Spak Brothers. They invite everyone to come and reflect on the successes and difficulties our community has dealt with and ideas for the future.

History of Pride Workshop

Location: Trusst Lingerie

While you’re hanging out at Penn OUT Loud, stop into Trusst Lingerie for a pride history workshop presented by Fair Moans. Learn all about the work that has been done and some fun facts!

Queer Craft Market

Location: Assemble

Highlights: all ages, free event, craft vendors in Assemble’s studio, all proceeds go to artists/organizations, recovery friendly, accessible space, gender neutral restrooms, snacks, alcohol-free beverages

I’M SO PUMPED FOR THIS!!! This is not only gunna be a lovely event because Assemble is the host and Pittsburgh has AH-mazing queer artists, but because QueerPGH will be a vendor! Come to mingle, make a shirt, and buy some local, queer-made art!

Jennifer Hudson at Pride in the Street

Location: Liberty Ave, between 9th and 10th Streets

Jennifer Hudson is coming to Pride to blow everyone away with her pipes. While you are being serenaded by her voice, you can also grab some greasy food and penis-shaped Jell-O shots because, you know, Pride.

Bubblepop Disco Smoke and Mirrors Pride Benefit

Location: Ace Hotel Pittsburgh

Highlights: 18+, fundraiser for the GLCC of Pittsburgh, nightlife, dance party, Bubblepop spinning “favorite classic disco, ’80s pop stuck in disco, and ’90s disco wannabes”

This event is part of the GLCC’s Penn OUT Loud Art Crawl and is basically all the disco and sequins you could ever want. Dress in your loudest outfits and shake your groove thang while celebrating Pride and donating to the GLCC.

Tuck It, Let’s Party: Queer Pride Pre-Hangover Edition

Location: Blue Moon Bar

Highlights: 21+, free event, nightlife, drag performances by local talent

Blue Moon is known for their drag shows and Pride season is no different! They will be filling the line-up with killer queens and filling you up with love and booze.

Rise Up for Our Rights

Location: PPG Paints Arena

Highlights: all ages, free event, rally for queer rights

Before the EQT March, Delta is hosting their Rise Up for Our Rights Rally. You will have a chance to hear local, regional, and national speakers discuss important issues in the queer community.

EQT Equality March

Location: Downtown Pittsburgh
Time and Date: 06/11, 12:30PM- 2:00PM

Highlights: all ages, free event, floats, marching contingents, queer-focused and queer-friendly organizations and groups promoting community

This year’s Equality March will have a new starting line! Starting at PPG Paints Arena, local organizations and groups will wave their flags high to show support and love for the queer community.

People’s Pride March 2017

Location: 349 Crawford Street (the intersection of Wylie & Crawford Avenue)
Time and Date: 06/11, 1:00PM- 2:30PM

Highlights: all ages, free event, alternative pride celebration, inspired, produced, made possible by SisTers PGH, Roots Pride, and the Garden of Peace Project

The People’s Pride March is creating another parade and celebration option for the queer community. They will be marching down Liberty Ave and promoting issues of inclusion and visibility.

PRIDE in the Square

Location: Market Square
Time and Date: 06/11, 1:00PM- 4:00PM
Price: FREE
Highlights: all ages, free event, family friendly, food and refreshments, performances by local talent including Lyndsey Smith and Phat Man Dee, wheelchair accessible, ASL interpreter, presented by Mayor Bill Peduto’s LGBTQIA+ Advisory Council

The LGBTQIA+ Advisory Council is throwing a party! Everyone is welcome to eat, dance, and meet some of the people representing and fighting for our community inside local government.

49 Bells Pittsburgh: St. Andrew Lutheran Church

Location: St. Andrew Lutheran Church
Time and Date: 06/12, 12:00PM – 1:00PM

Highlights: all ages, free event, part of a worldwide Pulse Nightclub memorial service, community discussion and remembrance

St. Andrew Lutheran Church joins the international movement 49 Bells and will be hosting their memorial event to honor the lives lost and citizens wounded in the Pulse nightclub shooting last year. After the ceremony, there will be light refreshments and time for fellowship.

Free “Pride” Film Screening

Location: GLCC of Pittsburgh
Time and Date: 06/15, 7:00PM- 9:30PM

Highlights: 18+, free event, Pride film screening, presented by Reel Q and Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, catered by Spak Brothers

After resting up from the weekend’s events, treat yo’self to a relaxing movie screening of the award winning film, Pride. What’s better than watching a queer movie and eating bomb-Spak with friends?!

June Rainbow Ride!

Location: Dippy the Dinosaur, Oakland 15213
Time and Date: 06/16, 6:00PM- 9:00PM
Price: FREE

Highlights: all ages, free event, biking around queer landmarks in Pittsburgh with the bad ass biker crew 412 Flock

412 Flock is throwing another Rainbow Ride! This is a great excuse to clean up your bike and learn about local queer landmarks while biking with old and new friends. This is an 11-mile ride. If that seems daunting for you, it’s okay! 412 Flock is great for riding at a casual pace and in comfortable clusters.

Folks, there are SO MANY OPTIONS! I’m so pooped from all that typing.
