A bill introduced in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives by State Representative Barbara Gleim (R, Cumberland County) to ban trans youth from school sports teams is scheduled for a vote in the House Education Committee on Tuesday morning.

The bill, deceivingly entitled “Protect Women’s Sports Bill”, would ban transgender girls from participating in all school sports from kindergarten through college but fails to offer cisgender girls any meaningful opportunity.

The bill was drafted in a coordinated movement by designated hate organizations. There is a national effort to pass this bill in state legislatures throughout the nation to counter gains on LGBTQ inclusion. This bill is the latest effort from the Alliance Defending Freedom, which has spent years attacking the LGBTQ Community. The ADF has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for their ceaseless, misleading attacks on LGBTQ Americans.

The Pennsylvania Youth Congress plans a day of lobbying in opposition to the bill on Tuesday from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm at the State Capitol in Harrisburg. You can register to participate in their efforts here.

House Education Committee Chair Sonney’s office phone number is (717) 783-9087.
