“Fifty Shades of Grey” by British author E.L. James is the first book in the Fifty Shades series that traces the deepening relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey. It is notable for its explicitly erotic scenes featuring elements of sexual practices involving bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism. The three-part series has sold over 90 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 52 languages, and set the record as the fastest-selling paperback of all time.
“I wanted to read “Fifth Shades of Grey” because of the relationship between Anastasia and Christian. When Anastasia says, “I gasp, and I’m Eve in the Garden of Eden and he’s the serpent, and I cannot resist” I can relate because I think most people have been involved in a relationship or situation that they know is toxic for them, but continue anyway because of love or short term gratification. If you’re looking for an easy book to read that will keep your attention, I highly recommend this one. Besides, who doesn’t enjoy a whip, handcuffs and blindfolds once in a while?”
