Big Siblings for LGBTQ Pittsburgh Youth

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh strives to defend the potential of all youth in our community. It has been proven that youth can benefit greatly from having a consistent role model in their lives. This is especially the case for youth in the LGBTQ+ community who may not have access to a relatable role model. BBBSPGH is working in conjunction with Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation to change this. BBBSPGH’s Big Siblings Program aims to focus on LGBTQ+ youth by providing them with a safe and inclusive mentoring experience. This program will match Bigs (LGBTQ+ mentors) and Littles (LGBTQ+ Youth in our community) based on preferences, interests, and location.

Mentors (Bigs) in the LGBTQ+ community will be able to share their experiences, educate and explore the LGBTQ+ community with their Littles. Activities will be planned each month in conjunction with some of our partners for matches to attend and gain a supportive community of their peers. The Big Siblings Program will serve youth ages 6-16. Volunteers are required to have a driver’s license and commit to at least one year from the start of their match.

If you are interested in the Big Siblings program or any BBBSPGH programs, please reach out to Hannah Waechter (Hwaechter@bbbspgh.org) for more information on how to apply as a Volunteer or to enroll your child for the program.
