If you thought Pride ended two weeks ago, I’d like to gently direct your attention to the calendar.

The one that’s still full. The one reminding us that queer Pittsburgh has never been contained to a single weekend. Or even a single month.

Sure, the big downtown and North Side festival happened. The parade marched. The crowds showed up. But then came Millvale. And neighborhood Prides. And drag shows. And community gatherings. And all the other ways queer people keep finding each other long after the confetti gets swept up.

That’s one of my favorite things about this time of year. The realization that Pride isn’t really a destination. It’s momentum. Something we build together and carry forward. Into July. Into August. Into the rest of the year.

So whether you’re still recovering from Pride, still celebrating Pride, or already making summer plans with your chosen family, remember that the joy doesn’t expire on June 30. We’re taking it with us.

Happy Monday, Pittsburgh.

SLAY OF THE WEEK: Andi Whorehol

This week’s Slay of the Week goes to Andi Whorehol.

Earlier this year, Andi became the first cisgender lesbian to hold a major Pittsburgh drag title when she was crowned Miss Blue Moon 2026.

That milestone has sparked conversations throughout the local drag community about representation, visibility, and who gets to see themselves reflected on stage.

For Andi, the moment is bigger than a crown. It’s about creating space for people who may not have previously seen themselves represented in Pittsburgh drag.

That’s one of the best things about Pride Month. Every year, someone expands the possibilities of what our community can look like.

This year, Andi is helping do exactly that.

Now that’s a slay.

READER JOY: Nikki

This week’s Reader Joy is a quick shout-out to Nikki and all the folks who joined QBurgh and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh at this past weekend’s Share Your Stories: LGBTQIA+ Pride gathering.

One of the best parts of Pride season isn’t just the celebrations. It’s the conversations. The memories. The stories people carry with them and choose to share.

Thank you, Nikki, for helping preserve a little piece of your family’s story and Pittsburgh’s queer history and for reminding us that every story matters.

Because today’s memories become tomorrow’s history.

SHARE YOUR JOY

Did something gay and glorious happen this week?

✨ You wore your first binder out in public
✨ You finally asked them out (and they said yes)
✨ You slayed at karaoke
✨ You felt cute at Giant Eagle
✨ You just felt seen

We wanna hear it! Send us your queer joy, big or small, and we might feature it in next week’s issue. Because your joy? That’s newsworthy too.

QUEER JOY IN THE WORLD: We ARE family

This week’s Queer Joy spotlight goes to the LGBTQ+ parents, stepparents, partners, children, and chosen family members who are creating loving homes all across the Pittsburgh region.

Four local families shared their experiences navigating parenthood, partnership, faith, adoption, blended families, and the everyday work of showing up for one another. Their stories are all different, but they share a common thread: family is built through love, commitment, and care.

Especially moving is the reminder that queer families have often had to invent their own paths forward. Whether it’s two dads raising adventurous sons, a couple advocating for their children in faith communities, a mother overcoming barriers to adoption, or a queer stepparent finding their place in a child’s life, these stories demonstrate the many ways LGBTQ+ people continue to redefine what family can look like.

As Pride Month begins to wind down, it feels like the perfect moment to celebrate the people who make home possible.

Pride isn’t only about the families we’re born into. It’s also about the families we build.

And that’s queer joy.

As June starts winding down, I’m reminded of something Pride Month teaches us every year: Community isn’t a destination; it’s a practice. It’s the decision to show up for each other again and again.

It’s the drag artists who make space for new voices. It’s the families creating loving homes in a world that doesn’t always make that easy. It’s the neighbors who turn out for Millvale Pride, the volunteers who keep events running, the storytellers preserving our history, and the people who keep building community long after the biggest celebrations are over.

This week’s stories all point to the same truth: queer life doesn’t fit into a single box. It never has. And that’s one of our greatest strengths.

As we move toward July, there are still Pride celebrations happening across the region, still stories being written, still friendships being formed, and still plenty of opportunities to show up for one another.

The banners may start coming down. The calendars may get a little less chaotic. But the community remains. That’s the best part.

Have a wonderful week, Pittsburgh. Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Check in on your friends. Support local queer spaces. And keep carrying a little bit of Pride with you wherever summer takes you.

Talk soon.
