As we begin Pride month, I am proud to stand with the LGBTQIA+ Community as we celebrate the history and accomplishments of the community in Pittsburgh, nationally and worldwide. As Mayor, I plan to make sure that your voices are heard and that Pittsburgh is your first choice to call home.
We are grateful to the leaders of the LGBTQIA+ community who have worked for years, and continue to work, to pave paths for so many to live without fear, especially our youth. In 2016, I stood with my colleagues on City Council to be the first city in Pennsylvania to ban Youth Conversion Therapy. The City has also committed to protecting the community through providing gender affirming benefits for city employees, providing LGBTQ Liaisons in Public Safety and established the LGBTQIA+ Commission, with whom my administration works closely. We know there is still work to be done together.
We all know that in 2026, the LGBTQIA+ community still faces adversity, despite your contributions to our great city. It’s important that we work together to uplift and protect members of the LGBTQIA+ community, its young people, and future generations. As mayor, I am committed to supporting the community and being a welcoming city for everyone. I will be present and my door is always open to you. Thank you for what you do for Pittsburgh. Have fun this Pride Month, be safe and I’ll see you at the festivities.
Corey O’Connor
Mayor, City of Pittsburgh
