The self-proclaimed “Worst Drag Queen in Pittsburgh” is officially royalty.
Last night at P Town Bar, Kara Sells captured the title of Mx P Town Pride 2026 after an evening of drag, glamour, and queer chaos. Wearing a glittering silver-and-black gown complete with a star-shaped bodice, sparkling opera gloves, and constellation-like lights twinkling beneath layers of black tulle, Kara accepted the crown with the exact mix of camp and sincerity that has made her a beloved figure in Pittsburgh drag.
Somehow, the “worst” drag queen in the city just became one of its reigning monarchs.
The competition placed Lavendar Hayes Sinn as 1st Alternate and Ari Nova Skies as 2nd Alternate, rounding out a stacked lineup of local entertainers competing for the title.
For Kara, the win is also another milestone for Pittsburgh’s increasingly dominant drag collective, the House of Medical Malpractice, a drag family led by JoeMyGosh that has quietly been assembling an alarming number of local crowns.
“I’ve learned everything about how to put together a winning package by my amazing drag mom JoeMyGosh,” Kara said. “Now we have five current reigning entertainers in our family!”
That growing dynasty currently includes JoeMyGosh as City of Bridges Comedy Queen, Snoozy Q as Miss P Town, Andi Whorehol as Miss Blue Moon, Eureka Siggs as Mx Club Pittsburgh, and now Kara Sells as Mx P Town Pride.
“It’s definitely on its way,” Kara said when asked whether the House of Medical Malpractice is becoming a drag dynasty. “We got a couple more to go, but I mean look at the material. It’s only a matter of time.”
Despite branding herself as Pittsburgh’s “worst” drag queen, Kara’s reign appears rooted less in irony and more in radical joy.
“With the title, I hope to be a beacon of light for the community,” she said. “As a middle child, I’ve always known my purpose here is to make people comfortable and give a laugh to those who need it.”
“The world is so bleak right now,” she continued. “I would love to send laughter and joy around, because God knows we need it.”
Kara also credited fellow entertainer Eureka Siggs, her real-life partner, for helping craft much of her winning package and supporting her both onstage and off.
“I would love to thank Eureka Siggs for not only making a lot of what I wore and what she does for me in drag, but the support out of drag is imperative as well,” she said.
She also thanked P Town, the judges, and the local community that has embraced her particular brand of theatrical chaos.
“I would love to thank P Town for providing a safe space for us to entertain, the judges for making the right decision, and every single person whether they clapped for me in the audience, tipped me a dollar, or simply laughed at whatever I’m doing,” Kara said. “That love and support goes such a long way.”
For a performer who insists she’s the “Worst Drag Queen in Pittsburgh,” Kara Sells looked an awful lot like a winner.
Congratulations, Kara Sells. Long may she reign.
