In the first installment of From Then to Now to When, a new video series honoring the past, present, and future of Pittsburgh’s LGBTQ+ community, we shine a spotlight on the Pittsburgh Pride Choir, a beloved legacy organization that has been singing for justice, joy, and belonging for over 40 years.
The choir’s recent performance, A Not So Silent Night, brought together longtime members and fresh voices alike, creating a powerful blend of found family and shared purpose. Audience members, some attending for the first time and others for the 40th, described the evening as one of healing, connection, and celebration.
“There’s so much support in the choir,” one member shared. “I just got married. There’s so much support from the choir in that experience.”
In a moment when LGBTQ+ rights and safety are increasingly under threat, the Pittsburgh Pride Choir stands as both witness and resistance, lifting up the voices of queer people across generations, and dreaming forward.
