Want to fight back? Lambda Legal is doing the work

If you’re like me, your inbox is flooded daily with emails from organizations sounding the alarm on the latest attacks by the Trump administration — always followed by a request for donations.

But here’s a logical question: Instead of just expressing outrage, shouldn’t these groups be telling us exactly how they’re fighting back — before asking for our hard-earned dollars? And more importantly, are they the ones doing the heavy lifting in the fight to stop Trump?

Let’s be honest. Many organizations contribute something to the resistance. But when it comes to the legal frontline, there’s one that consistently leads the charge: Lambda Legal.

Since 1973, Lambda Legal has been our community’s legal powerhouse. From marriage equality and domestic partner rights to employment protections, trans rights, LGBTQ+ immigration, student and teacher protections, and even the fight that struck down state sodomy laws — they’ve been there. During the HIV/AIDS crisis, they fought for spousal hospital visitation rights. Name almost any legal battle for LGBTQ+ equality, and Lambda Legal has been in it — often alongside the ACLU.

Right now, they are taking on Trump’s executive orders in courtrooms across the country — from local courts all the way to the Supreme Court. They are our most effective and strategic legal defense.

So if you’re a lawyer or paralegal, volunteer. If you’re an organizer, offer your time. And if you can donate — please do. Your contribution to Lambda Legal might just be the most impactful investment you can make in fighting back.
