The Queer Linker

  1. Although not an all-queer art show, I checked out Romper Room at Space Gallery featuring queer artist Jen Cooney.
  2. I made it to not one, but TWO Bingos with a Twist (Tuesdays 7-10 at 5801). Marsha Monster Mellow and her rotating cast of guest hosts, representing the best of Pittsburgh’s drag world, will keep you in stitches but things can get a little racy.
  3. Amy Vodkahaus gave up her crown as Miss Blue Moon. Definitely not a traditional pageant, there were contestants with beards, with carrots on their heads, and one of the crowd favorites was a broom.
  4. In the end, the judges panel (Amy Vodkahaus, Lola La Croix, Kitty Klotsalot, Cherri Baum, and Georgia Bee Cummings) sent the outstanding Janet Granite home with the “crown”.
  5. Sappho held it’s winter formal with the theme of Diamonds and Pearls. DJ SassySuggestions DJ Soulstrings, and the return of DJ MaryMack kept the crowd on their feet, and in the photobooth all night long.
  6. Project Silk (an amazing new organization focusing on helping queer and trans youth of color) brought Latrice Royale to Pittsburgh for a fantastic evening. Mackey Freidman and some amazing youths created an event that folks were talking about for days. Can’t wait to see what they do next.
Caldwell is a self-taught photographer about town who has been documenting the queer and trans community for a number of years and who has called Pittsburgh home for 6 or so years.
