State Representative Jessica Benham announced her campaign for re-election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, pledging to continue her fight for working families, vulnerable communities, and climate action across the Commonwealth.
In a statement, Benham reaffirmed her commitment to lowering costs for everyday Pennsylvanians while confronting what she described as extremism at every level of government.
Since taking office, Benham has built a reputation as a vocal advocate for workers’ rights, healthcare access, disability justice, LGBTQ+ equality, climate action, and economic fairness. Her tenure has not been without challenges. She has faced public attacks questioning her ability to serve because she is autistic, as well as threats tied to both her queer identity and her outspoken positions. including her criticism of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“I will never stand down when it comes to protecting vulnerable people in our communities,” Benham said in her announcement. “I will never give up the fight to make our lives more affordable in the face of unchecked billionaire greed. And as our region faces increasingly unpredictable and severe weather, my commitment to climate protection and tackling rising utility costs remains unwavering.”
Benham also emphasized that meaningful change requires collective power and sustained engagement, acknowledging the emotional weight of the current political climate while urging unity.
“Even when it feels like we’re not making progress, being united with others in this fight gives me the energy to keep going,” she said. “I believe we can move through this moment, but only if we do it together.”
Benham made history in 2021 when she was sworn in as state representative for PA House District 36, becoming the first openly queer woman and the first autistic person elected to the Pennsylvania legislature.
