Okay. Deep breath. It’s April.
Which means we are officially entering the part of the year where we decide it’s spring, regardless of what the weather is doing. Rain? Wind? 38 degrees at night for no reason? Irrelevant. We’re committing to the bit.
This is your soft reset. Not a full glow-up. Not a “new you.” Just… a gentle shift.
Open a window. Change your routine. Text someone back. Start something small. You don’t have to be fully bloomed yet. You just have to be willing to grow.
And honestly? After everything winter put us through… that’s more than enough.
SLAY OF THE WEEK: Pittsburgh Black Pride

This week’s Slay of the Week goes to the new generation of leaders guiding Pittsburgh Black Pride into its next chapter.
As one of the city’s most vital and impactful community organizations, Pittsburgh Black Pride has always been about more than events, it’s about care, culture, and creating space where Black LGBTQ+ folks are centered and celebrated.
Now, with new leadership stepping forward, there’s a renewed energy focused on growth, connection, and meeting the moment our community is in right now.
Because leadership isn’t just about stepping up.
It’s about showing up, again and again, for your people.

Did something gay and glorious happen this week?
✨ You wore your first binder out in public
✨ You finally asked them out (and they said yes)
✨ You slayed at karaoke
✨ You felt cute at Giant Eagle
✨ You just felt seen
We wanna hear it! Send us your queer joy, big or small, and we might feature it in next week’s issue. Because your joy? That’s newsworthy too.

QUEER JOY IN THE WORLD: Stonewall Inn Pittsburgh

A powerful new space has opened its doors in Pittsburgh. SisTers PGH has officially launched the Stonewall Inn Pittsburgh, a community-centered space dedicated to supporting trans and nonbinary people.
It’s a community space rooted in safety, care, and access to resources, built by and for the community it serves.
In a time when queer and trans spaces are more important than ever, this opening feels like both a celebration and a commitment.
Because queer joy isn’t just about nights out. It’s about building spaces where people can survive, connect, and thrive.
Community Call: Who Gets Their Flowers?

Pittsburgh Pride is asking a very important question: Who in our community deserves their flowers right now?
Nominations are officially open for the 2026 Pittsburgh Pride Parade Grand Marshal, an honor that celebrates someone who has made a real impact in the region’s LGBTQ+ community.
This isn’t about fame. It’s about the people who show up. The ones building community, creating space, organizing, caring, and doing the work, often without recognition.
The selected Grand Marshal will lead this year’s Pride parade across the Roberto Clemente Bridge and into the Pride festival, symbolically carrying our community forward.
So think about it. Who’s been showing up for you? Who’s been showing up for all of us?

Queer Recommendation: The Remarkable Life of Reed Peggram

If you’re in the mood for a love story wrapped in history, check out The Remarkable Life of Reed Peggram.
A Harvard scholar and Rosenwald Fellow, Peggram traveled to Paris in 1938 chasing both academic dreams and something more personal: love. What he found was a relationship that would anchor him — even as World War II made Europe increasingly dangerous.
While others fled, Peggram stayed.
Because leaving the man he loved wasn’t an option.
It’s a story of devotion, risk, and the complicated realities of being Black, queer, and in love during one of the most volatile moments in history. Borrow it from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
Let’s keep this simple. You don’t have to have it all figured out this month. You don’t have to be fully healed, fully realized, or fully anything.
You’re allowed to start slow, change your mind, try again, or not know what you’re doing yet.
April isn’t about perfection. It’s about possibility. So take the pressure off.
Drink some water. Go outside for five minutes. Let something be easy.
And remember, you’re not behind. You’re just becoming.
Talk soon.
