Nancy Mace’s Obsession with Transgender Women in Bathrooms Continues Unabated

Representative Nancy Mace (R) of South Carolina.

I love The Onion. They truly have their finger on this country’s political pulse. In fact, several of their recent headlines were so believable they could have come from the Washington Post. Examples include:

Gavin Newsom Sits Down For Podcast With Serial Killer Who Targets Homeless

This would not surprise me, considering Newsom has used his podcast to platform terrible folks like Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk. Newsom also hates the homeless.

Elon Musk Creates Federal Employee Revenge Porn Database

Considering Musk’s unprecedented and unfettered access to everyone’s most sensitive data, this will probably come out to be true any day now.

Nation’s Top Toilet Cop at it Again: GOP Rep. Nancy Mace Posting Pics Outside Bathrooms

Ha. I’d bet my preferred pronouns that this is actually true.

That’s because it is. That last headline? About Rep. Nancy Mace (R-Georgia)? It’s not from The Onion. The woman takes selfies in front of public bathroom signs the way most people do in front of The Eiffel Tower and Big Ben (both phallic symbols, which feels appropriate to use as examples here). The Onion’s own June Sternbach posted proof on Bluesky if you’d like to see for yourself.

I mean, everyone has a right to have hobbies, but, uh, why this one?

Well, I’ll tell you why. It’s because Mace is proudly the most transphobic member of Congress (and that’s saying something!) and she is on a crusade to keep transgender women from using public restrooms.

Mace is not at all embarrassed about being dubbed the nation’s Top Toilet Cop. In fact, she embraces it, even posting creepy AI-generated images of herself on Instagram and X guarding bathrooms, as Them.us points out.

Her obsession isn’t going unnoticed, or unchallenged. At a recent House subcommittee meeting titled “Unfair Play: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” Rep. Robert Garcia (D-California), who The Advocate identifies as “the first out gay immigrant elected to Congress,” called Mace out.

“Garcia entered into the record two articles documenting [Mace’s] fixation on trans issues, including one noting she posted 326 times in 72 hours about transgender bathroom access,” The Advocate reports

That’s… a lot. Your tax dollars at work!

Garcia also said, “It is just so obvious that this issue is being exploited by extremists to try to divide Americans and demonize LGBTQ people. And it is shameful.”

It is, in fact, shameful. But Mace has no shame. She apparently considers being a terrible person something to be proud of.

Take the encounter she had with a shopper at a Georgia Ulta store in April. In a video that Mace herself posted online, a constituent asks her if she plans to hold any town halls this year. It’s a fair question since Republicans have basically stopped holding town halls since their agenda is so widely unpopular.

Mace replies that she holds town halls every year and that she did some the year before. That, of course, didn’t answer the person’s question, so they pressed her. Mace continues to not answer the question but offers that she voted for gay marriage “twice,” clearly assuming that she is talking to a gay man. She eventually says, “Get out of my face” and “fuck you” several times. It is not a good look. For anyone. Especially not a member of Congress. And yet she is the one who put it online, posting on X, “Some unhinged lunatic, a man, wearing daisy dukes, at a makeup store, got in my face today. Dems are nuts. So I went off – and I won’t be backing down.”

Yeah, you tell ‘em, Nancy! Tell those disgusting constituents that you will not tolerate being asked about doing things that are literally your job!

Or take the time in February when she was called out for using a transphobic slur during a congressional hearing. Her response was to say the word three more times followed by, “I don’t really care! You want penises in women’s bathrooms, and I’m not going to have it!”

In January, Mace threatened Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) after Crockett chided her for using transgender people to get campaign contributions. “If you want to take it outside, we can do that,” Mace said.

There are many more examples where that came from, and many include Mace’s vendetta against Rep. Sarah McBride (D-Delaware), the first out transgender person elected to Congress.

What happened to Mace during her lifetime that she thinks attacking transgender people is her calling in life? I don’t know. But I am very grateful that I am not a miserable person like her.

By the way, The Onion did, in fact, publish a story about Mace in Nov. 2024: “Nancy Mace Introduces Bill That Would Ban Trans Colleagues From Congressional Gymnastics Team.”

You know she totally would.
