LGBTQ+ Victory Institute to Hold Public Leadership Summit in Pittsburgh

Local event is part of national effort to increase LGBTQ+ representation at local, state and national level amid a growing anti-LGBTQ+ political climate.

LGBTQ+ Victory Institute, the global leader in building LGBTQ+ equal representation in government, is holding a Public Leadership Summit on February 2, 2025, at 1:00 PM in Pittsburgh. This free event is designed to give local LGBTQ+ residents interested in running for political office information and resources to help them campaign. The event will connect LGBTQ+ public officials, stakeholders and community members in workshops and discussions around campaigning as an out LGBTQ+ person. The event is free and open for registration on our website. Registration is required for attendees.

Ensuring local and state governments are inclusive of LGBTQ+ people is vital to ensure LGBTQ+ equal rights amid a ferocious backlash against equality and diversity. Only .25 percent of elected officials nationwide are LGBTQ+ according to the latest LGBTQ+ Victory Institute report Out for America, despite representing at least 7% of the population.

“LGBTQ+ people have the skills to win elections and serve our communities, and our presence in government is more important than ever now,” says Vice President of Communications for LGBTQ+ Victory Institute Orie Givens. “We’re doubling down on our commitment to build a strong pipeline of LGBTQ+ elected officials nationwide because every elected office matters at every level.”

LGBTQ+ Victory Institute is holding 8 Public Leadership Summits nationwide. These events also connect people to our signature Candidate and Campaign Training, which will be held in Houston, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. this year.
