James Craig on ‘Bossypants’

Hot guy reads a book

You may have seen James Craig training for his next marathon, running the streets of Pittsburgh. Or maybe you’ve seen him sipping cocktails at Spin or perhaps eating at Verde with his boyfriend. But this man about town also often finds his nose in a good book. One of his new favorites? Bossypants by Tina Fey. “The humor that Tina Fey brings to the book is just like her SNL characters. She is sharp, witty, and always intelligent.” (Very much like James, I came to find out.) However, according to the book, that was not always the case for Tina. “What 19-year-old Virginia boy doesn’t want a wide-hipped, sarcastic Greek girl with short hair that’s permed on top?” Fey says in her book. James can certainly relate. “In high school, I was involved in everything, but was bad at it all,” he laughs. He recounted embarrassing stints in track, volleyball, and even football.

A main theme in Bossypants, “is always being a strong person in the face of adversity,” James
says. This resonated with him as a gay man, and he highly recommends the book because he feels others would connect with the stand-tall message, laced with Fey’s dark humor and constant sarcasm. Of course, we’d read it just because he told us to.
