Two staged operas, offered as a double-bill, celebrating queer love and joy. The first staged opera production, from Thousand Bridges Opera, one of Pittsburgh’s newest arts organizations. Founded by two opera singers, Thousand Bridges was created as a way to promote the advancement of local musicians in Pittsburgh through innovative performances, inclusive musical spaces, and community collaboration by partnering with a diverse array of other local organizations.
MEOW AND FOREVER is a 40-minute romantic comedy about chosen family, time management in the 21st century, and the challenges of post-college friendship and sapphic romance. Plus, two adorable cats! Composed by Jodi Goble. Libretto by Basil Considine. Pennsylvania premiere!
DAPHNIS ET CHLOÉ is a pastoral one-act comedy opera by Jacques Offenbach, based upon the Greek myth of Daphnis and Chloe. The pair of shepherds care for each other deeply, yet are too innocent to know what love and desire entail. The god Pan, along with his saucy bacchantes, come along to help the pair discover new lessons in romance and sexuality. In homage to the original performance, the role of Daphnis is played by a mezzo-soprano in drag. Pennsylvania premiere!
Both operas will be presented Saturday, June 7, 2025 and Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 7:30 PM.
Performances will be held at the Margaret Partee Performing Arts Center — 523 Lincoln Avenue, Bellevue, PA.
