Join Constitutions to Congress for a night of fun & prizes! Support us as we defend the Constitution, our rights, and our freedoms.

In this event, bingo cards will have the names of banned books on them. A librarian expert in this area will draw titles, read the name of the banned book, and give some background such as why the book was banned. It will be educational as well as fun! Otherwise, it will work just like a regular bingo game — if you fill up a row or column on your card, you win a prize.

Admission is $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

Prizes have been donated by local merchants and craftspeople, including Urban Jungle, Stay Gold Books, Madeleine Bakery, Fungus Books, and Red Dog Grooming.

Where do I Park?

There is free street parking on Ellsworth Avenue on the church’s block and also in the parking lot of the Winchester Thurston School across Ellsworth Avenue from the church.

What Is C2C?

Constitutions to Congress gives ordinary citizens the opportunity to demand that their elected officials follow the Constitution. We set up tables at local events, where passers-by can write individual, from-the-heart letters to politicians about immigration enforcement, due process of law, checks and balances, and other issues of their choice. Each letter is mailed individually to the elected official with a copy of the Constitution enclosed. In the process, volunteers are recruited and trained, and grassroots organizations gain new members.

How Did We Get Started?

In the spring of 2025, Carol Thomas set up a small table outside two local farmers’ markets. As shoppers walked by, she asked if they would like to send a copy of the U.S. Constitution to Senators David McCormick and John Fetterman.

They did! They wrote compelling messages and made small donations to cover the cost of the postage. Each letter was mailed individually with a copy of the Constitution.

In mid-summer, Carol recruited volunteers from a local Indivisible group. They began taking shifts at the markets and helping with the mailings. By October, they had sent more than 1,500 letters, each with its own Constitution.

But we’re not done! We want to expand the effort by recruiting other groups to multiply and amplify the power of “We the People.”

How is All of This Related to Banned Books?

All of our constitutional rights are currently under attack, including our First Amendment right to free expression. When national, state, and local governments censor our speech, blacklist journalists, and eliminate the books in our libraries, it is up to us to stand up and amplify the voices our leaders are trying to silence. Through a fun and community-building night of Banned Book Bingo, we reaffirm our support for free expression and promote important authors like Toni Morrison, John Steinbeck, and Maya Angelou.

What Do My Donations Support?

Proceeds from ticket sales will support our efforts to defend the Constitution, including buying Constitutions and stamps, educational events, and efforts to support candidates in the upcoming election — think paying for bus trips to door-knock against Scott Perry or supporting Sherrod Brown.
