It’s been 25 years since that 2001 Sundance Film Festival where John Cameron Mitchell’s film adaptation of his hit stage musical, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” wowed audiences and began its new life as an enduring queer cinema classic. So he’s taking it back on the road for its 25th anniversary. The filmmaker will be going from city to city, screening the film — sometimes in a new 4K restoration and sometimes in 35mm — with each stop featuring conversations, acoustic performances, meet-and-greet opportunities and costume contests sponsored by The Criterion Collection and Las Vegas’ Punk Rock Museum. It gets rolling during Pride Month this June and runs through October. Hedwig25.com has all the information as dates sell out and new dates are added. Pittsburgh’s City Theatre will have a production of the stage musical from May 2 through June 7. Get your outfits together.
Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder are going to ‘Camp Miasma’

“I Saw The TV Glow” filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun’s new film, “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” is all set to go for a summer release. The trans filmmaker’s walk down the horror path continues with this take on what they call the “sleepover classic,” with a plot that revolves around a queer filmmaker directing the next sequel in a long-running slasher franchise, one starring the original film’s “final girl.” If you’ve seen Schoenbrun’s “TV” and their earlier movie, “We’re All Going to The World’s Fair,” you know that obsession and psychological chaos will ensue. And the assembled cast seems perfect for the tone: Gillian Anderson and “Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder are the leads, and their co-stars include Amanda Fix (“Orphan Black: Echoes”), Arthur Conti (“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”), Eva Victor (“Sorry, Baby”), Zach Cherry (“Fallout”), Sarah Sherman (“SNL”), Dylan Baker (“The Good Wife”), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Yellowjackets”) and “Kids in the Hall” legend Kevin McDonald. The best description we’ve heard so far comes from Schoenbrun, describing the vibe as “‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire’ set in a ‘Friday the 13th’ sequel.” Look for it to creep into theaters in August.
‘Alexander’ the Gay, for Netflix
“Heated Rivalry” director Jacob Tierney’s career is on a roll, and his next stop is the ancient past with Alexander the Great. That hockey series is due back in April of 2027, but Tierney’s already got a follow-up project in line for Netflix. Currently titled “Alexander,” the series will be based on the 2009 Annabel Lyon novel, “The Golden Mean,” which fictionalizes the history of Alexander the Great’s ascent. It’s the story of the Athenian empire as Aristotle arrives to tutor the young prince Alexander, and it’s also resolutely queer, in keeping with many historians’ assessment of Alexander’s homosexuality (no matter how many narratives have shied away from that). It’s very early in the process, of course, so that’s every piece of information available. No timeline and no cast just yet. That means all you “Heated Rivalry” superfans can begin speculating. When we know more, you’ll know more.
Julia Fox and Kate Moennig are going to make SXSW ‘Perfect’

Queerness came to this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival in the form of “Perfect,” a new film from director Millicent Hailes, starring Julia Fox (“Uncut Gems”). Co-written by Hailes and Kendra Miller, the debut feature sets itself in a future world of contaminated water and desperate people struggling to survive. Two women find themselves in a rare pocket of clean water and utopian living, where they begin a passionate romance, until secrets threaten to spoil everything. “L Word” alum Kate Moennig also stars alongside trans actor Lio Mehiel (“Mutt”), Creed Bratton (“The Office”) and Micaela Wittman (“Clairevoyant”). Following SXSW, look for this one on the queer film festival circuit until it finds a theatrical distributor, but given Fox’s ongoing aura of idiosyncratic coolness, it looks like a lock to get picked up.
Romeo San Vicente’s Pride month calendar is also filling up, so book him now.
