Pittsburgh Pink Pages (PPP):

  • The first edition (1999) debuted at the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force’s (NGLTF) Creating Change Conference in November 1998.
  • Around 7,000 copies have been distributed, including mailing close to 3,000 copies and distributing to over 30 LGBTQ-owned and/or friendly establishments in the city and suburbs.
  • It is provided free of charge through funding from GLCC, the Lambda Foundation, the Three Rivers Community Fund, and advertisers.
  • Free copies can be picked up at various sites, including A Pleasant Present, Anderson Medical Group, Arena Health Club, Barnes & Nobles (Squirrel Hill), Beehive, Borders Bookstore (Monroeville & South Hills), and others.

GLCC Expansion and Fundraising:

  • The GLCC Board of Directors approved the expansion on January 5, 1999, which will add ten rooms to the current five rooms, taking over the entire floor of the current location.
  • Thursday Night Live (TNL), Pittsburgh’s Gay and Lesbian professional organization, donated $500.00 from their fundraising efforts for training sessions for phoneline volunteers and adult advisors for GLCC Youth Services, and for adding videos and books to the GLCC library.
  • Carol Zierman is organizing a fundraising project in March to benefit NGLTF and GLCC.
  • A gift-wrapping project at Barnes & Noble Bookstores (Squirrel Hill and Waterworks), organized by Youth Group Program Director Sharon Davis, raised $1050.00 plus a $100.00 gift certificate and promoted the Center.

Mailing and Advertising:

  • New mailing policies effective March 1999 include a $20.00 donation for each group insert, and a requirement for two volunteers from the inserting group to attend the mailing party for four hours.
  • New advertising rates for the newsletter were approved, ranging from a 1/10 page (business card) single issue for $45 to a full page single issue for $200, with discounted rates for six or twelve issues.

Upcoming Events:

  • Community Build 1999 (GLBT Community Building Weekend) is scheduled for March 5-7, 1999, with guest Beth Zemsky, and funds will benefit NGLTF and GLCC facility expansion.
