The October 1979 issue of Gay Life Pittsburgh is the final issue of the publication. The following month, the magazine would be rebranded as Pittsburgh’s Out. “Gay Life” would continue as a dedicated and recurring section of Pittsburgh’s Out.

The October 1979 issue of Gay Life Pittsburgh is the final issue of the publication’s run. The issue includes:

  • Upcoming Publication: Gay Life will be replaced by Out Magazine starting November 1, 1979. Out Magazine will have a larger page size, double the circulation, and feature new departments and articles, including profiles of gay comedy duo “Culture Shock” and coverage of the March on Washington.
  • National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights: Scheduled for October 14, 1979, in Washington D.C., with buses leaving from Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh. The event includes a Gay Freedom Train “whistlestop” in Pittsburgh on October 12, pre-march activities, and a rally with various speakers and performers.
  • Pride ’79 Conference: A statewide Lesbian/Gay Support Network meeting from October 19-21, 1979, at the Pittsburgh Airport Holiday Inn, focusing on personal, sister/brother, and community growth workshops. The Philadelphia comedy trio “Pink Debbie” will perform.
  • Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo: The all-male drag ballet troupe will perform one night only on October 17, 1979, at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. A cocktail party and cast party will be held at the Venture Inn.
  • Halloween Season Events: Various parties are scheduled around Pittsburgh and surrounding areas from October 27-31, 1979, at venues like 2001’s Cherchez La Femme Cabaret (Hollywood theme), Paradise Cove, David’s of Steubenville, the Norreh, the Venture Inn (Costume Ball), and the Loose Balloon (“Halloween Fantasy”).
