SUMMARY:Poison Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:On October 17th\, Signal Otter Films comes to Bottom Feeder Books to bring you Todd Haynes’s queer classic debut! \n\n\n\n\nInspired by the writings of Jean Genet\, Poison deftly interweaves a trio of transgressive tales—“Hero\,” “Horror\,” and “Homo”—that build toward a devastating climax. “Hero\,” shot in mock TV-documentary style\, tells a bizarre story of suburban patricide and a miraculous flight from justice; “Horror\,” filmed like a delirious ’50s B-movie melodrama\, is a gothic tale of a mad sex experiment which unleashes a disfiguring plague; while “Homo” explores the obsessive sexual relationship between two prison inmates. \nDetails\nDoors open at 6:30 PM with the screening to start at 7 PM. Snacks and drinks provided. Please mask when not eating or drinking\, and stay home if you’re sick. Limited pay-what-you-can tickets at the door. \n\n\n\n\nAccessibility\n\nStreet parking available along Gettysburg Street as well as neighboring residential streets. Parking is free after 6pm Mon-Sat.\nClosest bus routes to the venue are Fifth Avenue + Beechwood Blvd (the 71D) and South Dallas Avenue + Reynold Street (the 67 \, 69\, and 74). Check the bus schedule to make sure.\nHEPA filters will be running in the venue during the screening.\nDifferent seating may be available upon request.\nIf you have any accessibility concerns\, contact us at signalotterfilms@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Cece's Interlude Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Signal Otter Films presents Tee Park’s Cece’s Interlude!\nSet in Los Angeles\, Cece’s Interlude\, directed by Tee Park\, follows a troubled young mother and an overstepping documentarian. Filmmaker Sophie-Anne documents the daily life of Cece\, a transgender girl and content creator who’s pregnant. Facing much scrutiny\, Cece is a typical 20-something who likes to party and has little plans for the future\, let alone having a baby. \nStraddling between modes of documentary and satire alongside themes around how media can employ meaning through exploitative practices of storytelling\, in addition to blending a narrative toward conversations of bodily autonomy and respectability – ultimately\, according to the director\, It’s a story about bias\, motherhood\, and the predatory gaze. It serves as a satire of the media’s long-standing predatory practice of unfair portrayals of queer subjects. \nDetails\nDoors open at 7:30 PM with the screening to start at 8 PM. Snacks and drinks provided. Please mask when not eating or drinking\, and stay home if you’re sick. Limited pay-what-you-can tickets at the door. \nAccessibility\nWhile the venue’s entrance is not wheelchair accessible\, a moveable ramp is available upon request. \nStreet parking available along Penn Ave. as well as neighboring residential streets. Parking on Penn Avenue is free after 6pm Mon-Sat. \nClosest bus routes to the venue are the 88\, which stops along Penn Avenue\, and 64\, which stops at Friendship Park. \nHEPA filters will be running in the venue during the screening. \nDifferent seating may be available upon request. \nIf you have any accessibility concerns\, contact us at signalotterfilms@gmail.com
