SUMMARY:Queer Taiwan: Works from Jo-Fei Chen: Where Is My Love? and Incidental Journey
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, September 20\, SCREENSHOT: Asia Film Festival is partnering with CMOA\, Jaded\, and AQUARIUS to show a retrospective of Jo-Fei Chen’s films in our screening\, “QUEER TAWAIN.” \nWhere Is My Love? (1996)\, the directorial debut from Taiwanese filmmaker Jo-Fei Chen\, follows Ko\, a gay writer struggling with the risk of outing himself through his writing. Ko’s life is disrupted after an encounter with a man he picks up while cruising. The film captures the furtive queer lifestyles of the time in Taipei and the flow of the writing process. \nIncidental Journey (2000)\, the second film in this double feature\, is Taiwan’s first openly lesbian film made in Taiwan. A breakup with her girlfriend sends Ching on a road trip around Taiwan. She encounters hitchhiker Hsiang\, an older artist\, who takes her to her friend Ji\, a woman who lives on an idyllic rural farm with her husband. Here\, the two travelers contemplate the past while alchemizing yearning. \nThis event will take place at the Carnegie Museum of Art\, featuring additional programming by JADED and Aquarius as part of SCREENSHOT: Asia. \nBoth films are free! Go to https://www.screenshot.pitt.edu to reserve your spot and for more information.
