SUMMARY:Ajamu X\, FIERCE: Pittsburgh Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Ajamu X\, a fine art photographer\, activist\, and scholar\, has spent decades advocating for Black LGBTQ+ lives. Using nineteenth-century darkroom techniques\, such as the palladium print\, his work explores sensuality\, gender\, sexuality\, and queerness. Through this process\, he challenges the absence and reductive representation of Black\, Brown\, and queer bodies in the history of photography. \nFIERCE: Pittsburgh honors the city’s Black queer culture as part of a growing global archive that also includes work created in Bristol\, UK\, and Toronto\, Canada. The individuals celebrated in this exhibition are shaping Pittsburgh’s story through their contributions to the creative arts and education\, civic and political life\, and health activism. Support the museum today and gain access to special events like this all year long.   \nPlease note: parking is limited at our main lot at 505 Jacksonia Street with additional free street parking available in the surrounding neighborhood. \n\n\nAbout Lolo y Lauti\n\n\n\n\nLolo y Lauti is a duo of contemporary Argentine artists who have been working together since 2011. Their work includes video\, performance\, sculpture\, installations\, and photography presented in formats ranging from exhibition to opera\, through social networks and virtual reality. They claim humor as an autonomous experience and a tool to address topics such as sexuality\, drugs\, death\, and fine arts. They have shown their work in museums\, galleries\, and festivals in Germany\, Austria\, Belgium\, Chile\, Colombia\, Spain\, United States\, Greece\, Italy\, Mexico\, Panama\, Peru\, United Kingdom\, and Uruguay. \nThey held residencies at Villa Lena and SEA in Greece\, and at ISCP in New York\, among others. They recently obtained the 2022 Buenos Aires Art Week Award and the 2023 Amigos del Bellas Artes + ArtHaus Performing Arts Prize\, as well as the Williams Foundation and Argentine Mozarteum Research Scholarship at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. They also have a career as curators\, having organized PERFUCH (Argentina’s first performance arts festival) in all its editions as well as curating many individual and group shows in Buenos Aires. It’s the first time they will have an exhibition opening in Pittsburgh.
