We have cataloged nearly 1\,000 pieces of art that she had collected or had been abandoned at her frameshop. We have filled over 75 storage boxes with Wendi’s history. The materials will become an official archive that documents and contextualizes her life and Pittsburgh’s trans history\, which will be made accessible to researchers and creators.

DESCRIPTION:A “vibrant\, hot-blooded” (The New York Times) and notably queer adaptation of Romeo & Juliet comes to the City Theatre Mainstage May 8-10\, blurring the line between dreams and reality. Shakespeare’s R&J\, written by Joe Calarco\, will be directed by J. Cody Spellman\, a John Wells Directing Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. \nShakespeare’s R&J follows four boys living under strict rules\, including what they can and cannot read. In an act of defiance and curiosity\, they begin to act out the forbidden play\, Romeo and Juliet\, amongst themselves. What starts as playful experimentation – assigning roles\, improvising costumes from school uniforms – quickly becomes something deeper. Through Shakespeare’s language\, the boys reveal hidden desires and vulnerabilities among themselves. By the end\, the students face a choice: retreat into silence – or take control of their own voices. In a world built on control\, Shakespeare’s words become an act of resistance. A reminder that the choice to speak – or stay silent – is one we all face. \nThis production contains a cast and production team filled with many current students and alums of local universities. As the youngest of five children born into a tight-knit\, deeply religious family just outside of New Orleans\, her release is both a declaration of her independence and a love letter to the traditions that shaped her. \nThe album marks Clark’s arrival on the national stage as a proud\, queer\, Black woman blending the social consciousness of folk\, the rhythms of Southeast Louisiana\, and the soul-centered music she grew up with. \nJoy’s songcraft\, paired with sophisticated progressions and themes of freedom\, love\, and self-acceptance\, gained her notice on the national folk and Americana scenes just a few years ago with appearances at Americanafest. She caught the attention of Grammy-winner Allison Russell and was offered a regular spot in her backing band\, The Rainbow Coalition\, earning her the chance to jam with superstars Brandi Carlile and the Indigo Girls. Talking to The Tennessean\, Russell described Joy as “a brilliant artist\, writer\, and singer.”

We’re huge fans of theirs after they smashed The Grove to pieces at Campout 2024\, and we’ve been plotting their eventual Pittsburgh debut since. zi! enables dancefloor euphoria through DJing as well as event organizing\, as part of queer collective FLUSH (@arriverflush) and of Missed Connections (@missed_connections_radio). As a DJ\, zi!’s musical selections draw from a range of genres\, from house to dubstep\, always a dubby touch. We can’t wait to hand the booth over to them in a few short weeks. \nFor the most fitting local lineup pairing\, we are tapping Transit’s Michael Kaiser to bring the club to a simmer for the first half of the night. Cody Spellman\, a John Wells Directing Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. \nShakespeare’s R&J follows four boys living under strict rules\, including what they can and cannot read. In an act of defiance and curiosity\, they begin to act out the forbidden play\, Romeo and Juliet\, amongst themselves. What starts as playful experimentation – assigning roles\, improvising costumes from school uniforms – quickly becomes something deeper. Through Shakespeare’s language\, the boys reveal hidden desires and vulnerabilities among themselves.
