May Film Discussion: Hairspray

May 19 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Steel City Queer Film Club is a Pittsburgh meetup group for fans of LGBTQ+ cinema!

For our May meetup, we’ll be discussing the 1988 film, Hairspray. Directed by John Waters, this cult classic comedy starring Ricki Lake, Divine, and Debbie Harry follows teenager Tracy Turnblad in 1960s Baltimore who wins a spot on a local dance show, where she must contend with popular girl Amber as well as the class and racial divides of their city.

We’ll be meeting on Sunday, May 19th at 2pm at City Kitchen in Bakery Square.

As the name of the group suggests, all of the chosen movies for our club will feature queer characters, actors, directors, and/or writers. We’ll each watch the selected film on our own time and then meet up to discuss the film!

All LGBTQ+ folks and allies welcome! If you love cinema and want to discuss our film of the month, we’re eager to have you as part of our group!
