In Our Own Write: Creative Writing for LGBTQ Elders

July 27 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join writer Erik Schuckers from the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Creativity for this FREE virtual workshop for LGBTQ+ elders (50+).

Through readings, guided writing prompts, and workshop discussions, learn how to share your experiences through poetry and short nonfiction.

We’ll meet twice a week via the free Zoom platform to explore writing from memory, family and community, the body, and more, all from our unique perspectives as LGBTQ elders. Meetings will be held every Monday & Thursday from June 8 to August 10 from 7-8:30 p.m.

We’ll read and discuss contemporary pieces, write and share our own original work, and have the chance to meet virtually with publishing writers.

At the end, you’ll be able to share what you create through a collective reading and a limited edition chapbook to be distributed to all participants and archived in the University of Pittsburgh Library System.

This workshop is geared specifically toward those with little or no previous writing experience: beginners welcome! The only requirements are access to a computer and the desire to explore creative writing and connect with our community.
